The special feature of the trail is that it was built using dry stone wall technique, while allowing relatively easy walking through demanding mountain areas.

In the heart of the park is the Velebit Botanical Garden, founded in 1967 with the aim of preserving and researching plant species that grow in this mountain area. Here visitors can see more than 300 plant species, including rare endemics such as Velebit degenia – the symbol of Velebit and one of the most famous Croatian endemics.

Northern Velebit National Park is home to many animal species. Bears, wolves and lynx live here, making this park one of the rare areas in Europe where three large predators live together. In addition to them, the park abounds with birds of prey, deer and various smaller animals that provide visitors with the opportunity to observe wildlife in its original form.

In the park area there are remains of old shepherd’s dwellings, huts and mountain paths that testify to the hard but harmonious life of people in the mountains.
